Ok since Book 12 this fight has changed drastically. Its unclear what will be permanent so until then this guide is inaccurate. We will try to make another amended guide in the future.

Balrog Killing 101

This is for people new to the balrog fight for easy reference and because those of us who have done it a lot sometimes forget to warn you of IMPENDING DOOM! Below is a list of what items are needed for the fight.

20 Pure salve of Conhuith (fear)

20 Pure salve of Lhinestad (disease)

20 Pure salve of Healing (wounds)

20 power pots

10 heal pots

These are the pots that cure a 6m range area since both everseer and balrog will throw fear and wounds repeatedly throughout the fight and those around you may be on cooldowns and unable to use theirs.

Know which group you are in at all times as may get switched a few times during stages of fight!

Do not release when you die until Rezzers say to since there is usually a locked door and cannot return to the fight

Group 1 - Main tank, Burglar, LM, Minstrel etc

Group 2 - Off tank, LM, Minstrel etc

The Fight

Part 1

The first thing to remember is that if the lady dies it’s a wipe. All healers should keep her health topped up when possible. She will be part of the 1st stage of the fight as she cleanses the waters 1st on left and then on the right. The water is instant death until she is finished cleaning it so don’t step into it.

Have your destiny wallet open and hope section up before enter room. There is a short window of opportunity to use destiny hope after the 2nd water is cleared and this saves tokens needed for later.

As she opens the sealed door you will see the Balrog straight ahead and there is a sigil in front of him which heals you.

Both groups will go left along a ledge to an area where darklings spawn. Hunters will kill darklings approaching from the right and far sides across poison water. They will require help sometimes depending on spawn rate.

DPS classes should take care of darklings that pop in the alcove area.

When the lady reaches the alcove area ( she takes her sweet time) 2 world eaters will spawn. At this point the minstrel in MT group should use Call of greatness on him. Main tank will agro one while LM or burglars stun the other. Everyone should be assisting the MT while keeping an eye out for darklings. If darklings reach the World eaters adds will spawn. The lady will be getting aoe or may even get agro here so watch her morale. The world eaters gives wounds which reduce the effectiveness of the heals cast so need to be removed. If the LM is busy use a salve near the group.

After the last world eater dies, the lady will start cleansing pool. Darklings will continue to spawn in the area. DON’T SLOW DARKLINGS! They need to be killed before the wall comes down or everyone stays in combat and unable to use destiny points. When the lady is finished she will head to the right side of the area to next pool of poison water. As she leaves 1st area a wall comes down, so everyone must stay with or ahead of the lady.

At this point all run to right side of room near the next pool to be cleansed which is a mirror image of left. This fight is the same as previous one until the end.

As the last world eater dies have destiny window open and be ready to select the 15 min hope buff and glass of agaral. This may take a couple of attempts as darkling will spawn and keep you in combat, finish them off as quickly as possible then try again. When Lady is done she will head to the centre of room near the balrog. Do not get caught behind wall that comes down

Part 2 Lever Rooms

This part of fight is divided into 2 sides, Groups 1 will take left while Group 2 takes right. The lady will stand before the Balrog on the sigil with the minstrel from group 2 who will use Song of the Hopeful Heart at sigil. As she does her speech each group should head to their side to doors of lever room which are closed until she is finished. At this point LMs will anti stun groups heading into the lever rooms. Be careful of the waters in centre as they have yet to be cleansed.

The Minstrel in group 1 will stand along edge on Left side but ALWAYS in range of the Lady to assist in healing. This allows Minstrels to throw any heals on returning group if needed. If there are 3 Minstrels, the 3rd can stand along the right side of ledge in range of lady although the right side shouldn’t take as much damage as the left.

After the lady’s speech the doors will open to each lever room. Time is of the essence here as she begins taking big damage from the balrog until levers are turned and waters in centre are cleared. All minstrels need to heal her as fast as possible however DON’T get agro by healing too fast, let her take a swipe or 2 before healing. Once levers are pulled, the lady will stop taking damage from the Balrog.

Two people should be designated to pull levers in case one gets agro and is interrupted.

As room doors open, the MT and OT must grab agro on as many mobs as possible in order for the Lever pullers to remain agro free to pull lever. Lm’s will use CC also here. DON”T hang around in room because as soon as levers are pulled there is little time to get out before doors shut. Drag all mobs back to the lady and stand on Sigil. All hell will break loose here for a while until the adds are killed.

Once all adds are dead, LM’s will drain power from Balrog and top up groups power where needed. Minstrels and Captains will make sure the Lady has full morale. Raid leader will appoint someone to stand with the lady at the sigil while the rest of the raid move on to the Everseer. Someone in each group will now use a 30 minute Hope token. These are the 1st tokens of many to be used. DON’T waste them J

LM's are responsible to keeping anti-stuns up for their groups to avoid cowering. Fear pots also will remove in case LM is busy

Part 3 Everseer

After Tokens are up, follow raid leader to Everseer area while designated person stays with the lady. Once closer to room MT and OT use shadow pots for their groups and LM’s anti stun them. Minstrels should use Call of Greatness as MT enters Everseer room and lute strings to reduce agro.

Once inside, MT will agro Everseer while rest of group 1 goes left and group 2 right to kill all darklings.

Once darklings are dead, someone will do the 3 levers (see below) while rest of raid stays on everseer. Main tank will turn him so those assisting are hitting from back. Ignore any newly spawned darklings until Everseer is dead. Champs and Burlars need to use clobber and Addle etc as much as possible on him. The Everseer will continuously cast wounds and fear here which if not removed can kill. Always be ready to use a salve for yourself and for others who may be on cooldown.Balrog 101 Everseerlevers

Two world eaters will spawn during the fight and the OT will agro them and stand out of sight of Everseer. Minstrels, feign death helps a lot here J

Ok this is important!

The Everseer casts loads of wounds and fear. These can stack up to 4 or 5 I think and need to be removed or lots of heals get wasted. The worse of these are the Bombs which are similar icons but with a little clock. These can and will kill you if not removed. I have noticed that people have a hard time seeing the fear and wounds cast on themselves because of other buffs. It’s easier to see them on others if have all spell effects off except the dispellable ones ( ones cured by pots or other players e.g. poison etc.) This wont show Minstrel Captain buffs on other players so the wounds and fear show up more while your character may have 2 rows of icons.

Minstrels should try to stand out of line of sight of Everseer when possible to avoid aoe. However this is easier said then done since the tank is also by him and need LoS heal.

Once the Everseer is down everyone should finish off any adds still alive. The raid then regroups behind last pillar at back of room to regen power and receive anti stun before levers are pulled. The Raid leader will also reform the groups, 1 is the tanking group and other is caster group. Hopefully there are 2 captains in each for power and morale banners respectively. We do not use hope tokens yet as the Balrog usually wipes hope upon entering room. When the raid is ready someone will pull the final levers which open the door to the Balrog. This will also spawn a world eater who will go for the person left with the lady during the Everseer fight.

WAIT behind the pillar until the Balrog has done 2 roars. We then run into the room with the Balrog.

Minstrels will need to use Call of Greatness on MT as he tries to gain agro from the lady. Tank group have to stay close until Hope token is used. Howeverthe MT should save his for future hope strips. The rest of tank group kills the world eater while MT gains agro and turns him away from the raid. Caster group move to the sigil where they will use Hope token for their group. Minstrels and captains use Power banner and hopeful heart at this spot. All rezzers really need to save tokens for when or if they have to rezz someone.

Once MT has gained agro and the world eater is dead all dps attack Balrog from BEHIND.Captain with morale banner should place this in area near Balrog for Tank group. An additional hopeful heart can be laid at same point ONLY if things are under control. Pop your hammerhand before go down there near floor. A minstrel can also be escorted by a guardian using Shield Wall in order to get the hopeful heart down.

If the MT dies at any point in fight the OT should have challenges ready to quickly gain agro on Balrog. They MUST ensure Balrog is turned away from rest of raid!

At 100kThe balrog will cast disease mainly on the MT and anyone else in LoS. When the disease portion of the fight begins LMs need to chain remove disease as this will quickly kill. It is also useful to have disease potions ready to aid in this. The Balrog will also put a poison debuff on it's target (should be MT) which insta-kills when it times out. This will require constant curing by hunters as the debuff icon is hard to spot and has devastating impact if left unattended to. Usually one hunter will have the job of constantly curing poison during this part.

At 50k The balrog starts jumping up in the air and everyone needs to have their Nike Airs on for this! Don’t stop to heal etc just run to the corner of the room behind wall on left as you face the Everseer room. This is where the initial pool was cleansed. Wait until the Balrog lands and roars before returning. MT should say when it is safe. Continue DPS until he jumps again….RUN again as before til he stops jumping.
At 20k Minstrels use hopeful heart conditions permitting. No point in using if someone needs a heal.
At 10k The balrog goes beserk and starts attacking the lady. At this point, Anyone with a taunt should try to get agro from her. This is almost impossible. This means that strong aggro skills or skills that put you on top of Balrog's threat list does not work (Balrog doesn't give a shit about threat list at this point). You can only make him turn away from the lady by using Forced Aggro skills, those that give you undivided attention for a short period of time. As usual anyone who takes aggro off the lady has to turn the Balrog away from her. If the caster camp doesn't have a captain, make sure they are not in his LoS either.

ALL HEALS ON LADY at this point!!!!!!!!

Burgs should trip an all yellow conjunction at this point. The captain should use In Harms Way and Last Stand.

ALL DPS ON THE BALROG
No matter what happens its always a close call what drops 1st the Lady or the Balrog.

Ok Deep breath all…it’s a game and there is luck involved in the fight. Just remember shit happens and dust yourself off if things don’t go your way J
